A Great Blue Cheese

Cheese shopping is always fun, so many varieties to choose from! Yes, it can be overwhelming sometimes as well. When selecting an ensemble for a cheese platter, we tend to get one or two types we have had before and throw in two we’ve never had. It you don’t try anything new, you’ll never make wonderful discoveries like we did this weekend with Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company’s Blue Cheese – a local cheese made in Point Reyes, CA

thecheeseI was in the mood for some blue, but a mild one…not the type that hit you over the head with their blueness. We gave a few a sniff in the store (Draeger’s in Menlo Park) and settled on the Point Reyes Blue. It also happens to be fairly local, and we love supporting local businesses and craftsmen.

And what a treat is was! It is a wonderfully mild and creamy blue cheese. At room temperature it spreads onto a cracker easily with just the back of a fork, unlike many blues that can stay firm or get crumbly. I really enjoyed the clear yet mild blue flavor . It was a real joy to eat from taste to aroma to mouth feel. Everyone at our little gathering this weekend enjoyed it immensely. I think it was the favorite of our entire cheese platter.

So if you’re looking for great blue cheese, or a great cheese in general, try some Point Reyes Farmstead Blue. Even if you aren’t local, it may be worth the splurge to order some and have it delivered.

Buying Info:
